    • School Uniform

    At Larkrise Primary School, we take pride in our school uniform. Our policy on school uniform is based on the notion that school uniform;

    • promotes a sense of pride in the school;
    • engenders a sense of community and belonging towards the school;
    • is practical and smart;
    • identifies the children with the school;
    • prevents children from coming to school in fashion clothes that could be distracting in class;
    • makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance;
    • is regarded as suitable wear for school and good value for money by most parents;
    • is designed with health and safety in mind.

    It is our school policy that all children wear school uniform when attending school, or when participating in a school-organised event outside normal school hours.

    Uniform Details

    The School Uniform is:

    • White shirt/blouse for Y1 – Y6/White polo shirt for Reception children
    • Larkrise tie for Y1 – Y6 (available from One Stop School Gear) Y6 full length tie, Y1-Y5 clip on ties
    • Black trousers/shorts (boys or girls) and grey or black socks (Reception children can wear black jogging bottoms)
    • Black school skirt/pinafore (for girls) and charcoal grey/ black woollen tights or ¾ length charcoal grey, black or white socks (Reception children can wear black jogging bottoms)
    • V neck Blue jumper or cardigan with optional school logo on (which is available from One Stop School Gear)
    • Blue and white gingham dresses in the summer term
    • Plain black shoes or trainers, no logos. (See later section on footwear) 

    NB. Trousers and shorts worn in school for uniform must be appropriate uniform style material and ‘cut’,i.e. tailored style, not sportswear or fashion styles.

    All uniform items can be purchased from One Stop School Gear,  however items of school uniform can also be purchased at local supermarkets, or high street shops, meaning they can be much more affordable for families.  The logo’d uniform, especially the jumper, is a popular choice but is not compulsory.  

    ‘The Hive’ has a pre-loved uniform shop.  Contact our Child and Family support worker or come to a drop-in to find out what’s there.

    PE Kit:-

    • Black plimsolls or plain trainers (trainers for outside use and for sporting competitions)
    • Black or blue PE shorts
    • White T-shirt with optional logo on (which is available from One Stop School Shop) 
    • Black or dark coloured, plain tracksuit for the winter months (for outside use)  

    The PE kit should be brought to school on a Monday morning and may be taken home on Friday afternoon. Alternatively, kit can be left in school and will be sent home at the end of a half term. 

    items of clothing – including shoes and wellingtons – should be clearly marked with the child’s name.

     

    Jewellery

    On health and safety grounds we do not allow children to wear jewellery in our school.

    The exceptions to this rule are:

    • stud earrings in pierced ears (The school advises parents who wish their children to have their ears pierced to do so at the beginning of the six week school holiday)
    • small objects of religious significance, such as a crucifix on a chain or Sikh Kara

    We ask the children to remove these objects during PE, games and swimming for health and safety reasons. Teachers are not permitted to remove children’s earrings so if children are unable to remove earrings themselves, please do so before the child attends school.

    Medical identification bracelets may be worn by children who have significant medical problems e.g. Diabetes or epilepsy.

     

    Extreme haircuts

    The school does not permit children to have ‘extreme’ haircuts that could serve as a distraction to other children.

    Hairstyles and haircuts which are deemed too extreme such as tramlines, stars, shaved heads (No shorter than a number 2), extreme patterns, ‘V’ styles, Mohican cuts, or dyed, tipped or dipped hair are also forbidden. Pupils with shoulder length hair, or longer, should also tie it back for safety reasons.

    Hair accessories should be simple and plain blue, white or black. No extreme hair bands, head bands or hair bobbles will not be permitted.

    Footwear

    The school wants all children to grow into healthy adults. We believe that it is dangerous for children to wear shoes that have platform soles or high heels, so we do not allow children to wear such shoes in our school. We allow children to wear plain black trainers or plain black shoes to school. Trainers with obvious markings and logos will not be permitted.

    In winter time, winter black shoes or black boots may be worn – fashionable boots like Ugg boots or crocs are not allowed to be worn in school. Children coming to school during the winter months who wear wellington boots should bring with them black school shoes to change into.
