Welcome to Year 2 - Swans!
We have been working really hard in Swans over the last few weeks, with some very important booklets to complete!
In English we have been writing explanation texts about life cycles of frogs, bean plants and butterflies.
We have been looking at problem solving in Maths and looked at measuring capacity of different bottles using coloured water.
We have planted some pea seeds and we are looking forward to watching them grow taller and taller.
We have been looking at data in Maths and using tally charts, bar graphs and pictograms to show our information. We even used a programme on the laptops to make a bar graph.
We celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday along with the rest of the school. We made bunting and enjoyed eating afternoon tea! Look at our wonderful crowns too!
During March we took part in book week along with the rest of the school. We looked at the book ‘The Highway Rat’ by Julia Donaldson. We explored the character of the Highway Rat and wrote some book reviews. We enjoyed dressing up on Thursday. Take a look at our costumes!
We also visited St Paul’s Church to participate in Easter craft activities. We showed excellent behaviour throughout and made some really interesting crafts celebrating Jesus and the importance of Easter.
Over the last few weeks we have continued to learn about vehicles and transport and conducted a traffic survey in the school grounds. We also made bar graphs using the data, and made tally charts for how children get to school.
We have begun to look at the poem of the Owl and the Pussycat as our topic this half term. We have looked at poetry and made some of our own poems in the shape of cats and owls, using similes and noun phrases.
We also looked at Chinese New Year and made some of our own monkeys and masks!
In Swan Class we have been learning about Mrs Armitage!
We have learnt the story called ‘Mrs Armitage On Wheels’ through a story map and performing actions, and have been planning and writing our own stories based on the book.
We have also designed some of our own vehicles that Mrs Armitage could use and will be making them soon.
Welcome to Swans class. As part of STEM week the children took part in lots of different activities which all link to the outdoors. We completed some activities with parents including making bubble wands and spider webs!
We have also been busy learning and taking part in the school production of ‘Prickly Hay’ with the rest of KS1!
